Surgeon reimbursement for cervical disc arthroplasty has been improving in recent years, both in total payment, as well as relative to anterior cervical fusion payment.  In 2010 the average reimbursement amount for a fusion procedure was $2798.47, compared to an arthroplasty procedure at $1,657.88. This is a seventy-four percent difference between payment amounts. In 2011 the payment gap narrowed to thirty-four percent, with fusion receiving a payment of $2,229.77 and arthroplasty $1,657.88.
